Description
Tasting characteristics and tips for Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength
Tasting
Appearance
A deep golden hue with copper highlights, lifted by subtle mahogany glints.
Nose
The nose is complex and woody, dominated by hazelnut notes and a pronounced vinous character. Aromas of apple and pear intertwine with alluring notes of caramel and toffee. There are also candied citrus fruits reminiscent of orange marmalade, dried fruits, and more animal notes of leather and roasted coffee.
Palate
The attack is dry and quickly develops a spicy spectrum. The distillate feels relatively rich and very expansive on the palate, offering a round, indulgent structure with lovely creaminess. Notes of coffee, orange, pepper, toffee, and chocolate emerge, underpinned by red fruits in the background. A splash of water softens the profile and reveals even more flavors.
The finish is long, marked by hazelnut and malty notes, with lingering vinous tones and an echo of orange.
A powerful Speyside single malt with a beautifully expressive aromatic profile
Glenfarclas, a pioneering distillery
Founded in 1836 by Robert Hay in Ballindaloch, Scotland, Glenfarclas was acquired in 1865 by John Grant for the sum of 511 pounds sterling. Since then, the Grant family has remained the sole owner of this Speyside distillery, embodying a fiercely independent spirit in the face of industrial consolidation. Under the current leadership of John LS Grant, Glenfarclas continues to uphold traditional methods, with its six stills and the exclusive use of European oak casks from Jerez. A pioneer with its Glenfarclas 105 in cask strength as early as 1968, the distillery maintains around 70,000 casks in maturation—some dating back to 1953—bearing witness to an exceptional heritage.
105 Cask Strength: the union of boldness and traditional know-how
Launched as early as 1968, this pioneering whisky was among the first cask strength single malts available on the market. Its name "105" refers to the old British measure of alcohol strength (105 British proof, equivalent to 60% ABV). This Speyside single malt is the result of a carefully crafted vatting of European oak casks from Jerez, the signature of the Glenfarclas house. This cask strength expression allows you to appreciate the full intensity and complexity of the distillate without dilution, delivering a powerful, authentic tasting experience. Exclusive aging in European sherry casks gives this Scotch whisky its deep color and its hallmark notes of dried fruits, spices, and hazelnuts.
