Ventoux Wines : Key Points

Ventoux is an appellation in the Rhône Valley created in 1973. It extends over 5,900 hectares and is divided among 51 Vaucluse communes. The vines enjoy both a Mediterranean and mountain climate (due to the proximity to Mont Ventoux) and are located on various soils consisting of marine sediment from the Tertiary Era. Soil types include red soil, sand and clay, and debris soil mixed with rounded pebbles and limestone scree. The Ventoux appellation produces red wines (Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Carignan, etc.), white wines (Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Vermentino, Viognier) and rosés (Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Carignan). The reds have complex aromas of red fruit, blackcurrant, blackberry, and mixed with more spicy notes. They are both flexible, offer a pleasant structure and a fantastic length in the mouth. The Ventoux whites have floral and citrus fragrances. Finally, the Ventoux rosés reveal floral and red fruit notes that show great freshness.
