Description

The aromatic richness and structure of a 100% Malbec wine from the Argentinian estate, Zuccardi

The estate

Located in Mendoza, the Zuccardi estate is renowned as one of the estates that produces very great Argentinian wines. Sebastián Zuccardi is the third generation of winegrowers on this family estate, which history began in 1963 when his grandfather planted the first hectares of vines in Maipú. Since January 2000, Sebastián Zuccardi has been at the head of a vineyard of more than 200 hectares at the foot of the Andes, which wines reflect the richness of Uco Valley terroirs.

Coming from a visionary and future-facing family, Sebastián Zuccardi introduced a research and development department in 2008, dedicated to improving vineyard practices. In 2016, he inaugurated a new cellar, outfitted with vats and amphorae of different shapes and sizes. The latter were introduced after many long years of research aimed at determining ways to limit human intervention, to preserve and amplify the unique natural characteristics of each vineyard.

Recognised as one of the best winegrowers in South America, Sebastián Zuccardi produces wines that are beloved by connoisseurs and acclaimed by critics.

The Zuccardi family estate was selected as the best vineyard in South America in 2019 and 2020, as well as World’s Best Vineyard in 2020.

The vineyard

Altamira Malbec 2016 by Zuccardi is produced from a selection of the best soils of alluvial origin from Paraje Altamira, a winegrowing terroir in the Uco Valley. These vineyards are planted on soils composed of stone and and covered with calcium carbonate. This Aluvional Altamira Malbec 2016 by the Zuccardi family authentically expresses the heterogeneity of its landscapes, terroirs, soils and the passion of the people working on these vines.

The vintage

The year 2016 was particularly humid and rainy, highlighting the high-altitude terroirs which, thanks to the wind and their draining, stony soils, made all the difference. These special conditions give rise to wines marked by a lower alcohol content than the other vintages and a high level of acidity, blending lots of finesse with an intense and greatly elegant aromatic expression.

Winemaking and ageing

Juice run-off is carried out by gravity. Fermentation is carried out in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing in barrels and concrete vats. Bottling is carried out without filtration.

Blend

Aluvional Altamira Malbec 2016 by the Zuccardi family is 100% Malbec.
