Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

An opulent style, revealing peach, lemon, butter pastry, hazelnut and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Starts out rich, with the lemony acidity peeking through on the extended finish. Shows fine balance, with a citrus- and spice-filled aftertaste. Drink now through 2030.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Truffière" 2022 by Bruno Colin

Tasting

Colour
A golden colour of remarkable purity illuminates the glass.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals elegant scents of white flowers mingled with subtle touches of liquorice.

Palate
Both direct and mineral, the attack gives way to a full-bodied, rich and smooth texture, perfectly balanced by a delicate acidity. The palate reveals fine complexity with light woody and peppery notes, extending into a long, lingering finish.

Food and Wine Pairing
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish such as turbot or sea bass, pan-seared scallops, as well as poultry in cream sauce. It also goes very well with pressed cooked cheeses such as a young Comté or Beaufort.

Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Truffière" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 12°C, with a brief decanting beforehand. Boasting fine ageing potential, it can be cellared until around 2032.

Other Characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 14%.

The Elegance of a Great Puligny-Montrachet Terroir by Bruno Colin

The Estate
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy, the estate was founded in 2003 by Bruno Colin, the current owner, following the division of the family property. This renowned name of the Côte de Beaune oversees a human-scale vineyard of around 9 hectares. Bruno Colin carries on an age-old expertise while bringing his own vision, offering cuvées that express with great precision all the richness and finesse of their terroirs of origin.

The Vineyard
The plot dedicated to this cuvée covers just 0.49 hectares within the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. Located almost at the top of the hill, just below the Hameau de Blagny, the vines were planted in 1952 and 1987 on clay-limestone soils. This climat, one of the smallest in the commune with a total of 2.50 hectares, takes its name from the Burgundy truffle that once grew there. The vineyard is farmed organically, with mechanical soil maintenance and regular ploughing.

Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a rigorous sorting process directly in the vineyard. The making of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Truffière" 2022 continues with 12 months of ageing in 350-litre barrels, 15 to 20% of which are new. The wine then rests for 4 to 6 months in tank before bottling.

Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay.
