Description
A complex and fresh Douro red wine
The estate
Owned by the Sogrape Group, one of the most important Portuguese wine producers, Casa Ferreirinha is synonymous with one word: outstanding. Founded in the 18th century by Bernardo Ferreira, the house is renowned for its in-depth knowledge of the Douro vineyards and for the quality of its wines. Casa Ferreirinha was the first winery in Portugal to produce non-fortified Douro red wines.

Casa Ferreirinha's Callabriga is a Douro wine which, with its intensity and elegance, reflects Casa Ferreirinha's passion for making great Portuguese wines.
The vintage
A cold, dry winter preceded a mild spring with less rainfall than other years, except in April. The mild conditions during the summer were ideal and ensured a progressive and optimal ripening of the grapes.
Vinification and ageing
This wine is made from grapes from Quinta da Leda and neighbouring vineyards. Destemming and gentle crushing precede vinification in stainless steel vats. Gentle maceration. The wine is aged for approximately 12 months, 75% in French oak barrels that have been filled several times and 25% in new American oak barrels. No filtration before bottling.

The tasting
Colour
Deep, with a beautiful ruby colour.
Nose
Intense and complex, the nose blends fruity (red and black fruits) and floral (cistus) fragrances with delicious spicy (pepper, nutmeg) and subtly woody notes.
Palate
Ample and refreshingly acidic, the palate reveals delicious notes of red fruits, nuts and hazelnuts, and leads to a balanced and persistent finish.
Storage
Enjoy now, this Douro red wine can be cellared until around 2024.
Service
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to decant the wine before serving it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C.
Food and wine pairing
Casa Ferreirinha's Callabriga is ideal with meats (roasted goat, grilled matured beef), game or baked oily fish.
