Description
A champagne which authentically expresses the greatest terroirs in Champagne
The estate
Founded in 2005, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House has established strong relationships with partner producers to craft champagnes of a rare elegance from exceptional terroirs and rigorously selected grapes. "Accomplishing through great achievements", such has been the Rothschild family’s ambition for more than 250 years. Through the strength of its wine-growing experience, the family has joined forces with producers from Champagne to develop excellent champagnes which bring together know-how and tradition.
With the values of excellence, good taste and conviviality, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House, which head office has been located in Reims since 2007, near illustrous estates in the Champagne wine region, unveils cuvées which unique style harmoniously combines finesse, balance and purity.
The vineyard
The champagnes of the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House are made of grapes derived from exceptional terroirs in Champagne, notably the Grands Crus and the Premiers Crus of Côte des Blancs.
Vinification
The Extra Brut by the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House is exclusively produced from the cuvée (first press). Alcoholic fermentation in thermoregulated vats. Malolactic fermentation. A long ageing process on fine lees for 6 to 7 months. The dosage is very low (1.5g/l). Ageing in bottle on lees for a minimum of 4 years. The resting period after disgorging is for a minimum of 12 months.
Blend
This Extra Brut by the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House is produced from a blend of Chardonnay (60%) and Pinot Noir (40%). More than 85% of Grand and Premier Crus are used in the development of this cuvée, the main cuvée being Avize. Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Vertus and Trépail for Chardonnay but also Ay, Verzenay, Ambonnay and Avenay for Pinot Noir.
Reserve wines, which make up a maximum of 40% of the blend, are testament to the wine’s high quality and great ageing potential.
Tasting
Colour
The wine is crystal-clear, pure and silky, with light gold highlights. The effervescence has a wonderful finesse.
Nose
The first nose combines minerality and salinity with fragrances of white-fleshed fruits (pear, peach). Throughout aeration, the nose exudes beautiful notes of brioche, as well as developed aromas of raisins, figs and tonka bean.
Palate
With a beautiful salinity accentuated by notes of pepper and apricot, the palate seduces with its tightness, balance and length. The natural sweetness and long ageing time give this cuvée an intensely aromatic finish.
Food and wine pairings
The Extra Brut by the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House goes perfectly with oysters, shrimp carpaccio, sushi, a veal medallion accompanied by fresh pasta and white truffles. For desserts, some lemony mini pastries would also make for a delicious pairing.
Serving
For an optimal tasting, serve at around 10°C.
