The Structure and Finesse of a Pomerol Wine

The Estate
Founded in the 18th century, Château Beauregard is located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation. This estate, whose history dates back to the Knights Hospitaller of the 12th century, is now managed by Lauren Laudrin, appointed director in 2025. Owned by the Moulin and Cathiard families since 2014, the vineyard, certified organic, is set on clayey gravel soils typical of the appellation. The château is distinguished by its Napoleonic architecture and its emblem, the Cross of the Templars, a legacy of its Hospitaller origins.

The Vineyard
Located on the southeast edge of the Pomerol plateau, the Château Beauregard vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir composed of clayey gravel, typical of this prestigious Bordeaux appellation. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, certification obtained in 2014, allowing the typicity and richness of this unique 17.5-hectare Pomerol terroir to be fully expressed.

The Vintage
The year 2024 began with a mild and particularly rainy winter, followed by a variable and humid spring. Budbreak was early and generous, but flowering (around May 25) suffered coulure, naturally reducing yields. The summer proved dry and hot from July onward, with véraison starting on July 25. A slight water stress, beneficial for polyphenol synthesis, contributed to the quality of the grapes.

Winemaking and Aging
Winemaking begins with a rigorous three-step manual sorting, followed by high-frequency destemming and low-speed optical sorting for optimal precision. The grapes are cooled to 6°C before processing. The gravity-fed cellar allows 3hl bins to be transferred to 22 thermoregulated raw concrete tronconic vats. After a cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic fermentation takes place between 26 and 28°C depending on the vats. Some batches undergo whole-cluster vinification in new 225L barrels, followed by a maceration of 3 to 4 weeks. Aging lasts 16 to 18 months, with 40% in new barrels (from 5 different coopers) and 20% in 500L barrels.

Blend
Merlot (67%), cabernet franc (24%) and cabernet sauvignon (9%).
