Description
A dense and precise Pessac-Léognan red wine
The estate
Château Carbonnieux was founded in the 13th century by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. Château Carbonnieux is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is one of the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired the château, which became a Classified Growth in 1959, for both its red and white wines.
The vineyard
A benchmark among Pessac-Léognan wines, Château Carbonnieux watches over a 52-hectare terroir planted with red grape varieties. The vineyards are divided into 119 separate plots and spread over a tapestry of soils ranging from clay-limestone to Günzian gravel.
Vinification and ageing
The wine is aged in Bordeaux barrels (30% of which are new wood) for 15 to 18 months depending on the vintage.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (50%)
Merlot (45%)
Cabernet Franc (4%)
Petit Verdot (1%).
