The estate
The Château d’Esclans is located in the heart of Provence, northeast of Saint-Tropez, with the Mediterranean in the background. The first mentions of Château d’Esclans date back to Roman times, when it served as an observation post over the Gulf of Fréjus to anticipate potential maritime incursions.
Château d’Esclans is an exceptional estate in Provence. It stands out for its old Grenache vines, which produce grapes with more concentrated aromas than younger vines.
The current château was built in the 19th century and has had many owners. Since 2006, it has been owned by Sacha Lichine and has played a major role in raising the profile of Côtes de Provence wines. Today, it is renowned worldwide for its rosé wines, notably thanks to the Whispering Angel cuvée.
The vineyard
Not far from the ancient Roman city of Fréjus on the Côte d’Azur, the Esclans Valley stretches out and is home to the château’s 44 hectares of vineyards. With an average age of 35 years, the vines grow on a range of soils that, depending on the plot, combine clay, limestone and sandy pebbles. This diversity of terroirs gives these Provence wines a great aromatic range.
The wine
From the eponymous plot, the Garrus of Château d’Esclans, made mainly from nearly century-old Grenache and Rolle vines, is a benchmark among the great Côtes de Provence wines and embodies excellence and refinement far beyond its borders.
Blend
Grenache, Rolle (Vermentino) and Tibouren.
