Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Mercurey Village "Cuvée Hors Ligne" 2022 Château de Chamirey

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour reveals a deep red hue, distinguished by its brilliant and velvety appearance.

Nose
Wonderfully intense, the nose exudes aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry, strawberry and raspberry, delicately underscored by subtle floral notes of violet.

Palate
The palate is seductive, with a silky texture and enveloping richness. Supported by a well-judged acidity that brings freshness, it reveals refined tannins and unfolds into a long, smooth finish.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roast duck, grilled beef rib or characterful cheeses such as Tomme de Savoie. It will also pair very well with meats or poultry in rich preparations.

Service and storage

Approachable from now for its fresh fruit aromas, this Mercurey Village "Cuvée Hors Ligne" 2022 has a fine structure that will allow it to age well in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2034.

The authentic expression of a historic Mercurey estate

The estate

Built in the 18th century in France, in the Burgundy region, the estate truly took off as a wine producer with its creation in 1934, when the Marquis de Jouennes d'Herville made the innovative decision to bottle the wines of Château de Chamirey. Today, this 37-hectare estate, the largest in its appellation, is run by the fifth generation, represented by Aurore and Amaury Devillard. With a vineyard boasting a large proportion of Premiers Crus, they continue to uphold a demanding philosophy that combines respect for the terroir with precision viticulture.

The vineyard

This wine comes exclusively from the "Les Chavances" plot, a 1.15-hectare terroir located within the Mercurey appellation. Planted in 1988, the vines benefit from an ideal amphitheatre-shaped setting, which protects them from the wind while concentrating heat. The soil is clay-limestone in nature, enriched with iron and silt. The estate practises sustainable farming with a very high planting density of 10,000 vines per hectare, favouring greater concentration and quality in the grapes.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by uncertain and unpredictable weather, but ultimately offered moderate temperatures and conditions highly favourable to ripening. The harvest, spread from late August to mid-September, made it possible to pick very healthy grapes, yielding generous quantities. The estate chose to harvest late in order to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

Following a largely hand-picked harvest and rigorous sorting, the winemaking favours gentle extraction through carefully measured pumping-over and punching-down. The Mercurey Village "Cuvée Hors Ligne" 2022 is then aged for twelve months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new, before finishing with a four-month refining period in stainless steel tanks to stabilise the wine ahead of bottling.

Grape varieties

This wine is made from a co-planted blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay.
