Description
The Finesse and Precision of a Great Barsac Wine from an Exceptional Vintage
Property of the Pontac family for more than 400 years, Château de Myrat is one of the most beautiful estates of the Sauternes appellation.
This Sauternes-Barsac Classified Growth of 1855 was partially neglected for several decades until experiencing a true renaissance in 1988. The vineyard of Château de Myrat was totally replanted at this time, with the first vintage produced in 1990. Since then, the vines have reached maturity necessary to produce the great wines of Barsac, recognised vintage after vintage for their aromatic richness and depth.
Product of an exceptional vintage for the sweet wines of Bordeaux, the Château de Myrat 2017 reflects the goal of its passionate owners, Elisabeth and Slanie de Pontac: to achieve the perfect balance in a delicate and elegant Sauternes. In its blend of Sémillon (88%), Sauvignon Blanc (8%) and Muscadelle (4%), the Château de Myrat 2017 displays the identity of the property, as illustrated by the combination of these 3 grape varieties.
The frost at the end of April 2017 did not spare the property. Extreme daily attention and care were therefore required for the vine to proceed through the vegetative cycle. The exceptional quality of the 2017 vintage rewards the efforts made by the Château's teams. The harvest took place over a course of 3-4 successive pickings of botrytised berries, each one carefully planned. Although quantity was limited, the quality was excellent, with generous noble rot affecting the grapes, which were small and highly concentrated in sugars and aromas.
When tasted, the Château de Myrat 2017 is truly indulgent, while also achieving the perfect harmony necessary in a great Barsac. Delicate and fresh, the aromatic palette reveals pure citrus notes and white-fleshed fruit. The aromatic concentration develops fully on the palate with dense and full flavours that nevertheless do not weigh down the mouth. The brilliant acidity of the fruit helps to establish a perfect balance. Bringing forth slightly spicy notes, the finish ends with a beautiful freshness and finesse. A great Barsac from a superb vintage!
