Description

A fine red wine from Saint-Estèphe

The estate
Situated on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Château Meyney enjoys an exceptional location, near the Gironde estuary. With origins dating back to 1662, this property of the subsidiary Crédit Agricole Grands Crus has experienced a remarkable rise in quality in recent decades. The wines of Château Meyney are among the most beautiful references of the Saint-Estèphe appellation and the Médoc in general.

The vineyard

Neighbouring that of Château Montrose, the vineyard of Château Meyney extends over fifty hectares, all in one piece. The vineyard is planted in soils of Garonne gravel with one notable particularity. A vein of blue clay 3 metres thick, like the one found on the terroir of Pétrus, lies buried in the subsoil.

The vintage
2019 will mark the history of Château Meyney as a particularly sunny year, surprising and magnificent at the same time. After a dry and mild winter, the rainy spring did not threaten the health of the vineyard. The wonderful summer season, characterised by high temperatures, favoured a good ripeness of the grapes. The harvest began on September 24 and ended on October 11. 2019 is a vintage that highlights the specificities of the terroir and the climate of the year. Endowed with great richness, the grapes already foreshadowed the birth of a historic vintage at this renowned Saint-Estèphe estate.

The winemaking
Once the manual harvest has been carried out, the grapes are sorted twice, first manually then optically. The grapes are then vinified on a parcel-by-parcel basis. After cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic fermentation begins. The malolactic fermentation of the wines take place in new barrels.

The ageing
The First Wine of the property, Château Meyney 2019 is aged in French oak barrels (35% new wood).

The blend
The Château Meyney 2019 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), supplemented with Merlot (27%) and Petit Verdot (16%).
