Description
A tense and deep Pavie-Macquin, 1er cru classé B
The 2016 vintage on the 15-hectare vineyard of Château Pavie-Macquin, a property located on the Saint-Emilion plateau, was undoubtedly sublime. Extreme climatic conditions especially in the summer (a combination of heat and drought) were completely absorbed by grapes growing on soils of clay and limestone. Pavie-Macquin 2016 blends straightforwardness with aromatic precision, resulting from a blend of 82% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon - all harvested between the 7th and 22nd of October.
The colour is dense, dark and inky. The aromatic depth and flavour of this 1er cru classé of Saint-Emilion are sublime. Refreshing orange-peel flavours complemented with notes of menthol and wild blackberries. It is tense, complex, rich. The entry into the palate is sharp, very precise with an acidic structure that holds the wine from beginning to end. The mid-palate has plenty of class upon coated tannins, almost creamy and of a remarkable finesse. The maturity of the tannins also contributes to this sensation of freshness. The finish is long and, on the whole, this wine is impeccable. A great Pavie-Macquin with a bright future ahead of it.
