Vinum

Of superb structure, it has the density of a great vintage, with a wonderfully fruity finish; excellent, but it needs to age.

Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

This has good flesh and polish, with a core of raspberry, plum and blackberry compote notes that pump through the rounded, anise-edged finish. A flicker of singed apple wood gives this just enough contrast and spine. Drink now through 2021. 1,667 cases made.

Decanter

A success for the vintage. Supple texture. Fresh and harmonious. Cabernet (30%) shows. Fine, long, persistent tannins. A Château hitting its stride these days

Aromas of blueberry and blackberry. Some berry and dark chocolate. Medium body, delicate tannins, and a delicious finish. Pleasant bitterness and chewiness on the finish. Drink now.

From 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine represents 50% of the crop. Black raspberry with hints of fennel on the nose, the wine is light in style and delicate in structure with a polite cherry finish. Drink this young, as it will be best in its first 5-7 years. 88-90 Pts

Sweet and perfumed nose with red berries, violet and confiture. The palate is soft and supple with a light to medium weight and a rather long finish.

Deep purple. Generous bouquet, cold café latte, underneath blackberry jelly, dark noble woods and subtle truffle nuances. On the palate, it shows harmony, rounded, substantial tannins, and a long structure. Not to be underestimated. I believe the next higher rating will be within reach at peak maturity.

René Gabriel

Deep purple, dense at the core, with garnet glints at the rim. Fine, full bouquet of iced café au lait, blackberry jelly beneath, dark precious woods and the slightest truffle nuances. On the palate it shows harmony, rounded, textured tannins, long-bodied. Not to be underestimated. I believe the next higher score will be within reach at peak drinking. After a few annoyingly concentrated Saint-Emilions, it was a real relief to taste this highly digestible Grand-Pomerol!

André Kunz

Herbs, mineral bouquet, cherries, tobacco, smoke. Powerful, masculine palate with fine tannins, sweet, dark aromatics, tightly woven structure, long, fresh finish with good retronasal aromas. 17/20 2019 - 2032

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2013 Petit-Village has a medium garnet color, with a touch of brick. A bit of swirling uncovers a medicinal nose, followed by cherry cough syrup and notes of dried cherries, plus hints of black pepper, sweaty leather, and tobacco leaf. Medium-bodied, the palate is chewy, with delicate earth-laced flavors and a rugged finish.

Bettane+Desseauve

Substance, with a pure and refined aromatic profile, this cru is already full of charm.

Le Figaro Vin

The colour is garnet and the wine shows fine density, with freshness and length. Good aging potential.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark color of medium intensity, with a fruity, fresh nose. The palate is fruity and tasty, yet light. Medium length.

An elegant Pomerol wine from an exceptional terroir

The property

Château Petit-Village, located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, was founded in 1785 and covers 10.5 hectares. Currently managed by Augustin Belloy, a member of the Moulin family, the vineyard stands out for its unique terroir, composed of deep gravel, sand, limestone and clay on a bed of red iron. With 75% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate has recently undertaken significant investments to enhance the value of its terroir and modernize its facilities.

The vineyard

Located on the highest part of the Pomerol plateau, the Château Petit-Village vineyard forms a single triangular block. This exceptional terroir is composed of beautiful gravels that give the wines their distinctive character and aging potential. This privileged situation allows for the production of grapes of remarkable quality, fully expressing the typicity of Pomerol wines.

The vintage

The 2013 vintage began with normal seasonal conditions in March, followed by an April with temperatures favorable for bud break. Mid-June, a period of heat promoted the development of vegetation, and flowering began on June 10. Late June and early July were marked by a cold and rainy period with mildew pressure. On July 26, a hail episode had a minimal impact on the property.

Vinification and aging

Château Petit-Village 2013 benefited from a careful aging of 14 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which were new barrels and 40% were one-year-old barrels. This traditional aging method brings structure and complexity to the wine while preserving the fruit and freshness characteristic of the vintage.

Blend

This wine is a blend of 70% Merlot, providing roundness and fruitiness, 20% Cabernet Franc, contributing to the structure and floral notes, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, strengthening the tannic structure and aging potential.
