Description
A complex and balanced Peyrassol rosé
At the heart of the estate's range, the Château Peyrassol 2017 rosé expresses the typical characteristics of the terroirs of Provence in the specific style of Domaine Peyrassol, which combines complexity and balance.
Produced in A.O.C Côtes de Provence, the Château Peyrassol 2017 rosé comes from a plot planted with old, low-yielding vines growing in clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of pebbles, typical of Provence.
The specific blend of Cinsault (45%), Grenache (27%), Syrah (7%), Mourvèdre (11%) and Rolle (9%) allows for a full expression of the local terroirs through grape varieties that are typically Mediterranean.
Classified among the greatest Crus of Provence, Domaine Peyrassol stands out for its know-how, based on a long heritage of wine grape varieties planted for the first time by the Knights Templar, 800 years ago. Domaine Peyrassol manages its vineyards with a sustainable form of agriculture, minimalising chemical treatments and sowing seedlings between vine rows to enhance the microbial life of the soil.
The harvest at Château Peyrassol is carried out manually to preserve the aromatic expression of the grape varieties. After selective sorting and de-stemming, the grapes are quickly pressed and added to stainless steel vats in order to preserve the freshness of the aromas. Each varietal is aged separately, over a period of 4 months on fine lees, allowing the base wines to develop roundness and complexity.
The 2017 vintage will be remembered as having been quite precocious, due to the effects of spring frost. This resulted in a very limited quantity but extremely qualitative yields. Under excellent sanitary conditions, the berries reached the optimal phenolic maturity required for wines with rich aromas and great vivacity.
In the glass, the Château Peyrassol 2017 rosé has a pale colour with silver highlights. On the nose, it expresses all of the peculiarities of its vintage: the rich fruity notes of white-fleshed fruit (peach, pear and grape), along with the freshness of citrus, nicely underlining the strong tension in the mouth. On the palate, the wine presents a beautiful structure, firm but with fine tannins, and a subtle balance of density and liveliness. The finish offers an elegant hint of bitterness. A very fresh and balanced rosé of terroir.
