An organic, fresh and harmonious Côtes de Provence white wine
The estate
Founded in 1204 by the Templars in Flassans-sur-Issole in the Var, the Commanderie de Peyrassol extends its 92-hectare vineyard within an 850-hectare estate in the Côtes de Provence AOP. Owned by Philippe Austruy since 2001 and managed by his nephew Alban Cacaret since 2003, it stands out for the excellence of its Provençal wines, its contemporary art collection and its wine tourism significance.
The vineyard
The Cuvée des Commandeurs is a Côtes de Provence wine stemming from a rigorous selection of the appellation's best terroirs. The vines thrive on Triassic clay-limestone soils characterized by a high proportion of gravel. The organically farmed vineyard benefits from mechanical harvesting carried out at night, separated by grape variety, during the coolest hours to preserve the aromatic integrity of the grapes.
The vintage
The year 2024 began with a harsh winter marked by frost episodes and abundant rainfall of over 400 mm, restoring optimal water reserves. A cold snap in April during fruit set favoured natural aeration of the bunches and excellent sanitary conditions. The hot and dry summer, free of heatwaves and destructive storms, allowed for progressive and even ripening. The harvest began on August 22nd in a context of moderate to severe water stress depending on the plot. The first juices revealed a sunny character with alcoholic warmth balanced by lemony acidity and aromas of bergamot. Rains in early September reinvigorated the vines, bringing a fresh profile and an aromatic palette ranging from floral notes to red fruit.
Winemaking and ageing
Traditional winemaking for the Cuvée des Commandeurs Blanc 2024 takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Intentionally kept short, ageing takes place for a few months in stainless steel tanks on fine lees to preserve all the wine's aromatic freshness.
Blend
This Provence wine is the result of a blend of Vermentino (95%) and Ugni Blanc (5%).
