Description
A powerful and refined Haut-Médoc red wine
The producer
Overlooking the Gironde estuary for nearly three centuries, Château Sociando-Mallet is one of the most respected estates in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Owned by Sieur Sociando in the 17th century, the Mallet family purchase the estate in the 19th century, thus adding their name. Since 1969, the Gautreau family has been injecting both passion and energy into this iconic estate, located on the left bank of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
At the top of the Baleyron hill, near Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, the 79 hectares of vineyards are planted on a terroir which comprises gravel and clay, resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. The vines are on average 30 years old and are managed in the traditional manner.
The vineyard comprises 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
The tasting
Colour
Château Sociando-Mallet 2006 has a brilliant, beautiful dark colour with purple nuances.
Nose
The nose gives off fruity (blackberry) and woody (cedar) fragrances.
Palate
Structured and delicious, this wine is seductive due to its supple and dense tannins. Harmoniously combining power and refinement, this fine Haut-Médoc wine offers an exceptional ageing potential.
