Description
An intense red wine from Haut-Médoc
Situated in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, Château Sociando-Mallet holds a special status. "Neither cru bourgeois, nor cru classé" according to the motto of the estate, it is nevertheless a reference of very high quality, which brings great joy with each new vintage. Born from an exceptional terroir of 82 hectares, north of Pauillac, on the hill of Baleyron, which is composed of Güntz gravel, clay and a deep clay-limestone subsoil, the wines of Château Sociando-Mallet reflect the rich mosaic of soils, which also serves to regulate consistency.
The Château Sociando-Mallet 2018 was produced with the advice of oenologist Michel-Bernard Couasnon and is composed of a blend of 66% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. After harvesting in crates and sorting both before and after de-stemming, this Bordeaux red wine was vinified in thermo-regulated inert vats and then aged 90% in new barrels. The result is a silky and intense wine, which will delight both newcomers to and avid fans of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
The Château Sociando Mallet 2018 also serves as tribute to the arrival of Jean Gautreau to the helm of the property 50 years ago. The Château Sociando-Mallet 2018 is adorned with a special label, dedicated to the person who took the estate to the level of quality and fame it enjoys today – a true visionary, who has managed to create a unique identity for this property, which is "neither cru bourgeois, nor classified growth".
