Description
A powerful and balanced Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
With its origins in the 18th century, Château Soutard is one of the oldest properties in Saint-Émilion. Its name comes from a very old hamlet located on the unique limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. Since 2006, Château Soutard has been owned by the insurance company AG2R LA MONDIALE.
The vineyard
Château Soutard looks after a vineyard of 32.4 hectares in a single block. The 2022 vintage comes from a terroir of around 23 hectares, with vines averaging 13 years old, planted mainly on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, as well as on clay slopes and sandy hilltops. To highlight the beauty and richness of its land, Château Soutard has been a pioneer in Bordeaux wine tourism since 2011.
The vintage
The winter was punctuated by an episode of frost at the beginning of April, which had an uneven impact on the vineyard. Flowering was early and took place around 15 May. The rainfall in June was ideal before a particularly hot and dry summer, which the vines resisted well due to their deep roots and the necessary water reserves.
Winemaking and ageing
Following manual harvesting, the grapes were kept in a cold room for 24 hours. Transfer by gravity into thermo-regulated wooden vats and stainless steel cone trunks. The wine was aged in French oak barrels (50% new barrels, 25% one-wine barrels) and 25% in tuns.
Blend
Merlot (76%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Cabernet Sauvignon (8%) and Malbec (6%).
