Description
A fine red wine from Pomerol
The estate
Boasting ancient origins, Château Clos René was formerly known as "Reney" according to the map of engineer-geographer Pierre de Belleyme. The estate has been owned by the same family for several generations. It is now headed by Jean-Marie Garde.
The vineyard
The Château Clos René vineyard is located on the western slope of the Pomerol plateau. With an average vine age of 35 years, the Clos René vineyard covers 15 hectares. The vines are planted in gravel and ancient sands dating back to the Quaternary period, upon on iron ora subsoil. The vineyard is planted mainly with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Malbec (10%).
The winemaking
Château Clos René is vinified in thermoregulated cement vats. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months, 30% of which is new wood renewed each year. Fining with fresh egg whites.
