The Authentic Expression of a Pommard Premier Cru

The Estate

Founded in 1879 by Albert Grivault, Domaine Albert Grivault is a historic family estate located in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy. Spanning around six hectares, the estate is renowned for its respectful approach to terroir and the consistency of its production. Today, it is run by Claire Bardet, representing the fourth generation, supported by Michel Bardet and Henri Marc. The estate stands out for its traditional methods and its famous monopole, while producing wines of great finesse.

The Vineyard

The vineyard of Pommard premier cru covers a plot of around one hectare within the historic climat. The vines benefit from a south and south-east exposure, at an altitude ranging between 250 and 330 metres. The terroir is characterised by a complex geology, combining white limestone, clay, and soils reddened by iron oxide. This diversity provides the grapes with optimal ripening conditions. The vineyard work is entrusted to specialised vine workers, ensuring meticulous upkeep.

The Vintage

2023 in France was marked by particular climatic conditions, resulting in generous yields as well as high potential alcohol levels. These weather patterns required great precision in determining the harvest date in order to preserve the freshness of the berries.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Pommard 1er Cru "Clos Blanc" 2023 is based on a minimal-intervention philosophy. The winemaking favours a reductive environment to limit oxidation, with meticulous control of temperatures and macerations. Aging is carried out with very moderate use of new barrels, accounting for less than 10% of the total, and without excessive lees stirring, allowing the terroir to fully express itself.
