An emblematic red Corton Grand Cru from the hill of Corton in Burgundy

The estate

Domaine Bonneau du Martray represents a unique estate in Burgundy, exclusively dedicated to the production of Grand Cru wines. With a history dating back twelve centuries, the estate was acquired by the Bonneau du Martray family during the French Revolution. In 2017, American businessman Stanley Kroenke became the majority owner, while retaining the technical team led by vineyard manager Fabien Esthor and winemaker Emmanuel Hautus. The estate spans approximately 11 hectares of Corton-Charlemagne and 1.59 hectares of red Corton, cultivated using certified biodynamic methods since 2016. This emblematic property of the hill of Corton embodies Burgundian excellence through wines of remarkable purity and complexity.

The vineyard

The Corton Grand Cru 2019 comes from 1.59 hectares of Pinot Noir located in the lower sections of the hill of Corton, between the communes of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. These plots benefit from a south-east exposure and rest on soils rich in red clay and minerals. The average age of the vines exceeds fifty years, conferring natural concentration to the grapes. The estate practices rigorous biodynamic viticulture, with yields voluntarily limited to less than 30 hectoliters per hectare. The total elimination of herbicides and synthetic fertilizers, combined with meticulous manual work, preserves soil vitality and the authentic expression of the terroir.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage in Burgundy was distinguished by particularly favorable weather conditions. After a mild winter, the growing season benefited from cool nights preserving natural acidity and generous sunshine favoring optimal ripening. The harvest took place between September 12 and 18, allowing for the collection of grapes at ideal maturity, combining aromatic concentration and freshness. The absence of extreme weather events resulted in wines of exceptional quality and great consistency throughout the region.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Corton Grand Cru 2019 are harvested manually and vinified in vats with regular pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. Aging continues for approximately twelve months in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood to preserve the expression of the fruit and the terroir. The wine is then blended and rests for a few months in vats before bottling.
