Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Les Marconnets" 2023

Tasting

Colour
This red wine reveals a brilliant ruby hue, tinged with garnet highlights. Its clarity is perfect, letting fine, even legs glide down the glass.

Nose
With lovely finesse, the bouquet opens with primary aromas of small red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. After a light aeration, it gains in complexity, revealing scents of peony, white pepper and sweet spices, all underscored by a delicate mineral touch.

Palate
The attack is both supple and imbued with freshness. The palate is caressed by a silky texture and tannins of great finesse, supported by a delicate acidity. Flavours of crisp red fruits mingle with floral and subtly spicy notes. The whole shines through its airy, precise balance, extending into a persistent, elegant finish.

Food and wine pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with white meats such as roast poultry, guinea fowl or rabbit. It also enhances red meats such as duck breast or veal. For vegetarian alternatives, a creamy mushroom risotto would be ideal. Finally, a platter of mild cheeses, including brie, tomme or saint-nectaire, will perfectly round out the tasting experience.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Les Marconnets" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C, taking care to decant it for about thirty minutes while it is young. This wine offers fine aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2038.

The authentic expression of the Savigny-Les-Beaune terroir by Domaine de la Vougeraie

The estate

Officially founded in 1999, Domaine de la Vougeraie is located in Premeaux-Prissey, in the heart of Burgundy. Now led by Jean-Charles and Nathalie Boisset, this family estate spans over 34 hectares spread across the region's two famous slopes. A true pioneer, the estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamics, placing soil vitality and ecological balance at the centre of its philosophy. This rigorous approach gives rise to cuvées that express, with great precision, the diversity of their terroirs of origin.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the "Les Marconnets" climat, located within the Savigny-Les-Beaune appellation. Resting on hillsides at altitudes ranging from 250 to 400 metres, this terroir is characterised by deep, sandy soils, free of limestone, which give the grapes a distinctive mineral expression. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with soil work carried out using horses to preserve the structure of the earth. The estate also favours massale selection and strictly limits its yields to ensure optimal berry concentration.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by historically high temperatures in Burgundy, offset by generous rainfall. After a mild, dry winter, spring saw a brief cold spell with no impact on the buds. While June proved particularly warm and sunny, July and August brought coolness and rainfall, requiring great vigilance against fungal pressure. Finally, a heatwave at the end of August and beginning of September allowed the grapes to reach ideal ripeness before the harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The production of the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Les Marconnets" 2023 begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, maintained between 12 and 15°C. The winemaking process incorporates 27% whole clusters, which are gently conveyed into the tanks by gravity, thus preserving all the freshness and purity of the fruit during extraction.
