Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Fèves" 2024 Domaine du Château de Meursault

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep, dark ruby hue. For this vintage, it appears with great delicacy.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red fruits, reminiscent of strawberry and raspberry, enhanced by touches of white pepper, fruit liqueur, and a lovely minerality.

Palate
Harmonious and complex, the palate offers a perfect balance between fruit, minerality, and structure. The tannins are elegant and well integrated. The finish, of impressive length, stands out with saline nuances that bring great persistence.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with veal medallions, duck breast, or roasted poultry such as quail. It will also pair very well with terrines, soft or hard cheeses, as well as seafood dishes in sauce.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, this Beaune 1er Cru "Fèves" 2024 is best served at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. This wine can be cellared to evolve favourably until around 2032.

The Estate

The history of Domaine du Château de Meursault dates back to the 11th century, when the Moulin Foulot estate was founded. Located in the heart of Burgundy, this emblematic estate now oversees a vast 67-hectare vineyard. Acquired in 2012 by the Halley family, led by Olivier Halley, the estate underwent a major renovation to modernise its facilities while preserving its magnificent Cistercian cellars. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate is certified organic and stands out for its practices promoting biodiversity.

The Vineyard

The terroir of the "Fèves" climat, recognised since the 14th century, is located on the mid-slope within the Beaune appellation. The vines thrive on soils composed of sand, silt, and a high proportion of limestone, offering an ideal balance between sunlight and water management. Yields are strictly limited to ensure aromatic concentration. The estate has also planted numerous trees and shrubs to provide shade and coolness to the vines in the face of climatic challenges.

The Vintage

The year was marked by unusual weather, with above-average rainfall and episodes of spring frost in April. While some areas suffered hail damage, the Côte de Beaune was largely spared. The return of warm, dry weather in August ensured good berry ripening. Thanks to a terroir with a later ripening cycle, the harvest took place later in the season, allowing the fruit to reach perfect maturity.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with a rigorous selection of berries. After destemming, a six-day cold pre-fermentation maceration is carried out, followed by a total vatting period of 15 to 18 days with regular punching down. After pneumatic pressing, this Beaune 1er Cru "Fèves" 2024 is aged in oak barrels (approximately 35% new oak, with the remainder in one- to two-wine barrels) for a period of 15 to 19 months.
