Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2024 Domaine du Château de Meursault

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant golden hue, with great clarity and beautiful translucency.

Nose
Open and remarkably precise, the nose exudes aromas of citrus fruit and orchard fruit such as white peach and apricot, alongside notes of white flowers. Subtle touches of almond, hazelnut and a delicate toasted oak note enrich this mineral bouquet.

Palate
The attack is silky and full-bodied, offering an ideal balance between richness and freshness. The mid-palate reveals a striking minerality carried by a vibrant acidity reminiscent of lime. The finish is long and persistent, marked by an elegant saline touch.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate fish (John Dory, monkfish, pikeperch), seafood risotto, or pasta with a creamy sauce. It will also enhance light herb-roasted poultry as well as matured cheeses such as Gruyère, blue cheese or goat's cheese.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2024, it is recommended to serve it between 10 and 14°C, decanting it one hour beforehand. Approachable in its youth, it will continue to evolve in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2032.

Other characteristics

This wine has a moderate alcohol content of around 13.2% and retains a lovely residual malic acidity of approximately 4 g/l.

The elegance and mineral precision of a white Burgundy wine

The estate

Officially established under its current name in 1973, the Domaine du Château de Meursault traces its historical origins back to the 11th century. Located in Burgundy, this 67-hectare estate has been run since its acquisition in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the current owner, supported by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. Committed to a rigorous environmental approach, the estate has been fully certified organic since 2022. It stands out for its respectful approach to terroir and was even named estate of the year at a London-based competition in 2025.

The vineyard

This cuvée comes from a tiny 0.12-hectare plot located within the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation. Facing due south, the vines thrive on a steep 25% slope, at an altitude of between 310 and 350 metres. This cool terroir sits on shallow soils composed of highly calcareous, chalky marl. The vineyard is farmed organically, with strategic cover cropping, physiologically respectful pruning of the vines and a complete absence of synthetic pesticides.

The vintage

2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. A very wet spring and a lack of sunshine led to significant fungal disease pressure. A few localised frost events and a cool June disrupted flowering, drastically reducing yields. Nevertheless, these low volumes combined with an extended growing cycle allowed the surviving berries to reach optimal physiological ripeness without excessive sugar accumulation.

Winemaking and aging

The philosophy in the cellar is one of minimal intervention, allowing the terroir of the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru "Sous Frétille" 2024 to fully express itself. Fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts, with very limited lees stirring for the white wines. Aging includes a measured period in oak barrels, lending the wine a subtle patina.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
