The estate

Established in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley ranks among the most prestigious houses in Bourgogne. Now led by the family’s seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate spans more than 120 hectares of vineyards across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, and the Côte Chalonnaise. The estate counts twelve grand crus and twenty-two premier crus within its vineyard holdings. Certified in organic farming since July 2025, the year of the estate’s bicentennial, Domaine Faiveley perpetuates ancestral know-how while embodying a vision firmly focused on excellence and respect for the environment.

The vineyard

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze traces its origins back to medieval times, when the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Bèze planted the first vines on this south-facing slope. The plot from which "Les Ouvrées Rodin" is produced covers just 0.33 hectares, making this cuvée one of the most confidential in Bourgogne. The name "ouvrées" refers to an old Burgundian unit of measurement equivalent to about one-fifth of a hectare. The soils are composed of limestone rich in scree, providing optimal drainage and a distinctive mineral expression. The east-southeast exposure offers moderate sunshine, encouraging balanced ripening of pinot noir. The vines, planted in 1966, were 55 years old at the 2021 harvest, giving the wine concentration and aromatic depth thanks to naturally limited yields and deep rooting in the terroir.

The vintage

The year 2021 began with a winter marked by a rare episode of intense frost affecting vineyards across France. The milder spring allowed flowering at the end of May, followed by particularly rainy months of June and July. Weather instability continued from mid-July to mid-August. The welcome rains at the end of August encouraged optimal ripening, revealing berries of remarkable generosity and balance.

Winemaking and aging

The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru "Les Ouvrées Rodin" 2021 is made using methods that respect the fruit and the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. After destemming without crushing, the grapes are placed in truncated wooden vats located in the historic 19th-century cellars. Fermentation relies on the indigenous yeasts naturally present, following a natural winemaking approach. Daily punch-downs ensure extraction of color and tannins during a maceration lasting more than three weeks. After gravity draining and gentle pressing, the wine begins aging in French oak barrels for twelve to eighteen months, with a proportion of new oak chosen to enhance—without masking—the expression of the fruit.
