Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2024 by Domaine Henri Boillot
Tasting
Colour
Revealing a pale yellow hue enhanced by delicate green glints, this cuvée displays the typical brilliance of a wine in its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with floral notes of acacia and linden blossom, mingled with subtle herbaceous touches. With aeration, citrus aromas such as lemon zest and grapefruit emerge, accompanied by nuances of white and yellow peach, as well as light spicy notes from the aging process.
Palate
The attack is pure and precise, offering a mouth-watering sensation carried by lovely acidity. The mid-palate unfolds with citrus and stone fruit flavors, underpinned by a crystalline minerality evoking chalk and flint. The whole shines with energy and tension, extending into a long, persistent finish deeply marked by its mineral identity.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish such as sole or turbot, particularly when served with a creamy sauce. It also enhances shellfish such as lobster or langoustine, roasted poultry in cream sauce, as well as refined dishes like a truffle risotto. When it comes to cheese, an aged Comté with mineral notes will make an ideal choice.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 13°C, in glasses suited to white wines, after letting it breathe for about twenty minutes. Built for aging, this wine will reach its peak within approximately 5 to 10 years, but has the structure to evolve favorably over several decades.
The Mineral and Precise Expression of a Meursault Premier Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1885, Domaine Henri Boillot is located at the heart of Burgundy. Today, the estate is led by a complementary family duo: Henri Boillot oversees the creation of the white wines, while his son, Guillaume, is in charge of the vineyard and the vinification of the red wines. Spanning approximately 19 hectares, the estate is renowned for its absolute rigor and ultra-sustainable viticulture. This philosophy gives rise to cuvées of great precision, faithfully reflecting the uniqueness of each terroir.
The Vineyard
The terroir from which this Meursault originates benefits from an ideal south-east exposure. The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils crossed by marl and schist bands, giving the wine its distinctive minerality. The estate applies a high planting density of approximately 10,000 vines per hectare to encourage deep rooting. Vineyard management excludes any use of herbicides and insecticides, favoring mechanical and manual soil work to preserve biodiversity and vine health.
The Vintage
The year 2024 stood out for its gradual ripening cycle. Spared from extreme heatwaves, the season offered mild weather conditions, allowing for a gradual accumulation of sugars while ensuring optimal phenolic ripeness. This balance helped preserve lovely natural acidity within the berries.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for this Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2024 are hand-harvested in small crates, late in the season, followed by rigorous sorting. Pressing is slow to extract the juice gently. Fermentation occurs naturally, without temperature control. Aging takes place in 350-liter oak barrels, a larger format than the traditional barrel, which helps preserve aromatic freshness. No lees stirring is carried out in order to maintain the wine's tension and purity.
Grape Variety
Chardonnay (100%).
