The mineral precision of a Premier Cru from Chassagne-Montrachet by Domaine Hubert Lamy
The estate
Officially founded in 1973 by Hubert Lamy, Domaine Hubert Lamy is a leading name in the Burgundy region. Located in Saint-Aubin, the estate now spans 18.5 hectares of vines. Since 1996, Olivier Lamy has brought an innovative vision to the domaine, becoming its sole owner in 2022. Renowned for its sustainable viticultural practices and bold experiments with high-density planting, the producer crafts wines that faithfully express the complexity of their respective terroirs.
The vineyard
The Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "Les Macherelles" plot covers an intimate area of 0.16 hectares, planted in 1988. Situated on a mid-slope with an east-facing exposure, the vines thrive on shallow soils composed of red clay resting on a bedrock of hard limestone. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable methods, favoring soil tilling over the use of herbicides, along with careful, manual canopy management to ensure the highest possible grape quality.
The vintage
The year 2022 began with a mild winter followed by an early spring, leading to bud break as early as the beginning of April. Flowering took place quickly in May under favorable conditions. Summer was marked by significant heat and a substantial rainfall deficit. Fortunately, saving rains in mid-August allowed the vines to complete their ripening cycle optimally. Harvesting, notably early, began on August 20th under dry, windy conditions, yielding wonderfully fresh grapes.
Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting, the grapes for this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Les Macherelles" 2022 are gently pressed using a pneumatic press, then the juice settles naturally overnight. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes extended aging for twenty-four months on the lees in predominantly used large-format oak barrels. The winemaking process concludes with a six-month resting period in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
