Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "En France Clos de France" 2023 Domaine Merlin
Tasting notes
Colour
The glass reveals a hue ranging from pale to deep gold, subtly flecked with green highlights.
Nose
Harmonious and complex, the aromatic bouquet reveals stone fruit aromas, notably white peach, combined with citrus notes such as lemon and grapefruit. It also opens onto mineral touches, almond, hazelnut, honey and buttery brioche, all underscored by a very discreet oakiness.
Palate
The palate offers an opulent structure and a lovely natural richness, while retaining a delicate and refined character. Enticing iodine notes evolve into great length and considerable elegance, carried by the freshness and minerality typical of its terroir.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood and fine shellfish such as lobster or langoustines, as well as with sushi thanks to its minerality. It also perfectly accompanies white meats in creamy sauces, goat's cheese, or more exotic and spiced dishes such as a fish tajine.
Service and storage
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "En France Clos de France" 2023 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now but also has the ageing potential to develop until around 2033.
Other characteristics
This vintage stands out for its optimal phenolic maturity and fine preservation of its natural acidity, offering a perfect balance without any excess alcohol.
The elegance and minerality of a great white Burgundy wine from Domaine Merlin
The estate
Founded in 1987 by Olivier and Corinne Merlin, Domaine Merlin is located in La Roche-Vineuse, at the heart of the Mâconnais in Burgundy. Today, the founders, joined by their sons Théo and Paul, still head this family estate, which spans approximately 26 hectares. Renowned for its environmentally respectful approach to its terroirs, the estate is dedicated to producing wines that express balance, purity and depth, establishing itself as a key reference in the region.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the historic climat "En France", located in the commune of Vergisson within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. South-east facing and perched at 230 metres above sea level, the vines flourish on a complex geology dating back to the Triassic period, composed of sandstone, clay and a highly distinctive limestone rock layer, with very little topsoil. The vineyard is farmed with deep respect for the environment, using organic fertilisers and prohibiting chemical herbicides.
The vintage
The year 2023 offered very favourable weather conditions, characterised by generous sunshine. This climate allowed the grapes to reach optimal maturity, with harvesting taking place between late August and early September, while preserving lovely natural acidity.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest is entirely manual. The whole grapes undergo direct pneumatic pressing, followed by light settling in stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation then take place in oak barrels. The Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "En France Clos de France" 2023 is aged for 18 months in barrels. The wine is then racked and lightly filtered before bottling, without any fining, in order to preserve the full expression of the terroir.
