Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole 2021 Domaine Nicole Lamarche

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue with purple highlights.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the aromatic bouquet combines scents of ripe red fruits, rose petals and blood orange with subtle notes of tea leaves and tobacco. With aeration, delicate floral touches, fine spices and undergrowth notes emerge.

Palate
The soft, delicate attack opens onto a palate with an elegant structure and lovely volume. The tannins are light and refined. Perfectly balanced, the finish lingers at length, revealing delicious notes of black truffle and undergrowth.

Food and wine pairing

This great red wine from France pairs wonderfully with red meats such as roast beef fillet, wild boar stew or duck breast with berries. It also enhances dishes with forest-inspired flavours, such as truffled poultry, morel mushroom risotto or black truffle pasta. When it comes to cheese, opt for characterful varieties such as Époisses, aged Comté or farmhouse Reblochon.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole 2021, it is recommended to serve it between 16 and 18°C, ideally in large Burgundy-style glasses, after decanting for about 30 minutes. This wine, built for aging, can continue to develop in the cellar until around 2041.

The refined expression of a Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru by Domaine Nicole Lamarche

The estate

Founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche, Domaine Nicole Lamarche spans just over 11 hectares in Burgundy. Now run by Nicole Lamarche, the estate has undergone a genuine renaissance. Renamed in 2018, the domaine stands out for its terroir-focused philosophy, favouring finesse over power. Under the guidance of its current owner, the vineyard has been converted to organic farming, elevating its wines among the essential references of the Côte de Nuits.

The vineyard

The jewel of the estate, La Grande Rue is an exceptional 1.65-hectare plot classified as Grand Cru. This monopole, literally enclosed between the illustrious terroirs of La Tâche, Romanée-Conti and La Romanée, benefits from meticulous care. The vines are cultivated according to biodynamic principles, with soil work carried out by horse to preserve the ecosystem. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, followed by rigorous sorting.

The vintage

2021 proved to be a particularly challenging year. After a warm March that encouraged early budbreak, an intense frost accompanied by snow struck the vineyard in early April. The cool, rainy summer required constant vigilance against disease. Fortunately, the return of a welcome north wind from the beginning of September helped dry out the vines and ensure cool nights, resulting in grapes of remarkable purity.

Winemaking and aging

The winemaking process for the La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole 2021 follows a minimalist approach. After careful sorting, the berries undergo cold maceration followed by slow, low-temperature fermentation. Aging takes place using a moderate proportion of new oak barrels, not exceeding 50%, in order to preserve the authentic expression of the terroir. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.
