Characteristics and tasting tips for the Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2023 from Domaine Nicole Lamarche
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a deep ruby hue, clear and brilliant, with light garnet highlights at the rim.
Nose
The bouquet opens with clean aromas of ripe red fruit, such as Burlat cherry and raspberry, followed by delicate floral notes of violet and rose.
Palate
The attack is broad and velvety. The palate is supple and perfectly balanced, supported by ripe and remarkably silky tannins. The long, enveloping finish lingers on flavourful hints of spice and liquorice.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with full-flavoured meats such as lamb with herbes de Provence, a fine rib of beef or roast pigeon.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy this Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2023, serve it at a temperature of 16–17°C. Decanting 30 to 60 minutes before tasting is recommended to reveal its full aromatic complexity.
A red Burgundy wine of captivating finesse and purity
The estate
The history of the Lamarche family dates back to the end of the Ancien Régime, but the estate itself was founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche. Located in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of Burgundy in France, this vineyard of around 12 hectares is now run by Nicole Lamarche. With the support of her cousin Nathalie, she brings a modern vision to the estate while preserving its family heritage. Domaine Nicole Lamarche stands out for its prestigious La Grande Rue monopole and its environmental commitment, having obtained organic certification in 2010.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Nuits-Saint-Georges come from vines around forty years old, located in the lieux-dits Les Herbues and Aux Tuyaux. These plots lie on the northern edge of the appellation, very close to Vosne-Romanée. The soils are rich in clay and rest on clay-marl and limestone subsoils, lending the wine great depth. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles and draws inspiration from biodynamics, with hand harvesting and rigorous sorting to ensure the finest berry quality.
The vintage
Production of the 2023 vintage was extremely small, yielding very limited volumes that heighten the rarity of this cuvée.
Winemaking and ageing
The Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2023 is vinified with precision to preserve the vibrancy of the fruit. Ageing follows an original approach: around one third of the wine rests in custom-made Italian amphorae to maintain its aromatic purity and silky texture, while the remaining two thirds are aged more traditionally in oak barrels. The total ageing period ranges from 14 to 20 months.
