The Elegance of a Great Mercurey Pinot Noir from Domaine Raquillet
The Estate
Located at the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Raquillet draws on an eleven-generation family heritage. The brand's modern structure truly took shape in 1990, when François and Emmanuelle Raquillet took over, now supported by their daughter Jeanne. This fourteen-hectare vineyard is farmed using sustainable practices. The current owners stand out for their rigorous approach, limiting yields to favour terroir precision and grape purity.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from three distinct plots located within the Mercurey appellation, facing south to east: Les Chazeaux, Les Ormeaux and Le Meix. Covering an area of two hectares, this terroir rests on clay-limestone soils. The vines, averaging 60 years of age, receive attentive care with mechanical soil tilling, meticulous debudding and leaf thinning. The grapes are hand-harvested from these early-ripening plots, followed by careful sorting at the winery.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes destined for the Mercurey Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 are entirely destemmed before being gravity-fed into the vats. A five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration at 12°C precedes natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. After gentle punching down and two daily pump-overs, the wine is drawn off after 12 to 15 days. Ageing then takes place over 12 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, before light filtration ahead of bottling.
