Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Grattamacco 2024
Tasting
Appearance
This white wine from Grattamacco presents a luminous straw-yellow hue with subtle golden and greenish highlights, hinting at ripe fruit while retaining a lovely visual freshness.
Nose
The nose of this white Bolgheri from Grattamacco is complex and refined, blending citrus aromas (lemon blossom, mandarin) and white fruits such as pear with touches of Mediterranean spices and broom. A subtle mineral note reminiscent of wet stone completes this elegant aromatic palette.
Palate
On the palate, this wine unfolds a silky yet taut texture, driven by a lively, well-integrated acidity. A saline-mineral core runs throughout the tasting, supporting fresh, juicy fruit. The long, balanced finish stands out for its saline persistence, which prolongs the pleasure of the tasting.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine from Grattamacco is ideally paired with fish and seafood dishes, particularly grilled fish, crustaceans and shellfish preparations. It also pairs very well with Tuscan antipasti, fine charcuterie, as well as white meats and poultry served with creamy sauces. Soft-rind cheeses harmoniously complete this range of pairings.
Serving and Cellaring
The Bolgheri Blanc 2024 Grattamacco is best enjoyed chilled, at a temperature between 10 and 12°C (50 to 54°F), in order to fully reveal its freshness and minerality. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it also has the potential to evolve in the cellar and can be kept until around 2033.
A White Tuscan Wine Shaped by the Meeting of Hills and Sea
The Estate
Founded in 1977 by Piermario Meletti Cavallari, Grattamacco is the second historic estate of the Bolgheri appellation in Tuscany, and the first to have produced a Bolgheri Rosso as well as a Vermentino. Now owned by the ColleMassari Estates group, led by the Tipa-Bertarelli family, the estate extends over approximately 80 hectares, including 34 hectares of vines farmed organically since the late 1990s. A pioneer of hillside vineyards and faithful to Sangiovese in its reds, Grattamacco cultivates a singular identity in a landscape dominated by Bordeaux grape varieties.
The Vineyard
This white wine from Grattamacco comes from the oldest Vermentino vines in the Bolgheri appellation, planted nearly forty years ago on a natural terrace about a hundred metres above sea level, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soils, composed of white saline clays mixed with calcareous marly flysch, give the wine its distinctive mineral signature. The proximity of the coast, only a few kilometres away, brings constant sea breezes that support organic vineyard management and preserve the freshness of the grapes.
The Vintage
The 2024 year was marked by generous spring rains, which helped the vines better withstand the intense heat and summer drought. Showers at the end of September then accompanied ripening while preserving the freshness of the grapes. The Vermentino harvest took place between 5 and 28 September, allowing for a slow, harmonious ripening conducive to the wine's balance.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Bolgheri Blanc 2024 Grattamacco is made with one third fermented in small oak barrels and two thirds in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for six months on fine lees, with frequent bâtonnage intended to enrich the texture while preserving the energy of the fruit. Bottling took place in June 2025.
Grape Variety
This white wine from Grattamacco is made from Vermentino.
