The authentic expression of a great Pommard wine
The estate
Officially founded in 1989, the family estate is located in Corpeau, in the heart of Burgundy. Building on a heritage passed down through three generations, it is now run by Jean-Charles Fagot, the current owner. This vineyard of around four hectares stands out for its artisanal approach and its commitment to sustainable farming. Alongside his work as a négociant, the winemaker has skillfully combined winegrowing with local gastronomy by opening a traditional inn. The estate thus embodies an authentic philosophy, favoring hands-on work and a deep respect for the terroir.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the Pommard appellation, located in the prestigious Côte de Beaune. The historic lieu-dit that gives its name to the cuvée refers to an old white stone cross marking the plot. The vines flourish on southeast-facing slopes, benefiting from optimal sun exposure. The soils, composed of ferruginous clay and calcite, give the berries a unique mineral and earthy character. Part of the soil work is carried out using animal traction with draft horses, underscoring a commitment to preserving biodiversity and soil health.
The vintage
The year 2023 brought particularly favorable weather conditions, following a more challenging previous season. This favorable growing cycle allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining lovely freshness and balanced acidity. The harvest stood out for its generous yields and remarkable sanitary quality.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand to carefully select the finest bunches. The winemaking of the Pommard Village "La Croix Blanche" 2023 follows the purest Burgundian tradition. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in large wooden foudres, deliberately avoiding the use of temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This artisanal method encourages gentle oxygenation and allows the wine to develop a nuanced, authentic aromatic expression.
