The singularity and finesse of a white wine from Beaune signed by Louis Jadot
The estate
Officially founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. Now owned by the American Kopf family, the estate is led by Thomas Seiter, president, and Thibault Gagey, general manager. Overseeing a vast vineyard of 220 hectares spread across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais, the estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment. In 2024, the house reached a major milestone by obtaining organic farming certification for a large portion of its land, confirming its dedication to the authentic expression of Burgundian terroirs.
The vineyard
This white wine comes from a micro-plot of 2.5 hectares located within the famous Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves climat. Planted in 1986, these vines benefit from an ideal south-east exposure and a gentle slope between 230 and 250 metres in altitude. The terroir is characterised by light, sandy and gravelly soils, offering perfect conditions for the grape variety to flourish. The vineyard is farmed according to the principles of organic agriculture, certified in 2024.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by rather dry weather conditions, at times bordering on drought. This particular climate encouraged a natural concentration in the berries and led to an early harvest, allowing grapes of optimal maturity and perfect balance to be picked.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest for this Beaune 1er Cru Grèves "Le Clos Blanc" Famille Gagey 2024 is carried out by hand with rigorous selection of the finest bunches. Alcoholic fermentation as well as malolactic fermentation take place in French oak barrels, made by the estate's own cooperage. Ageing then continues for 12 to 15 months in barrels, with a proportion of 60% new wood and 40% one-wine barrels. The wine finally rests for a few months in bottle, without fining or excessive filtration, in order to preserve all its purity.
