Description
The refinement and structure of a Burgundy red wine
The estate
Since 1859, Maison Louis Jadot has been an emblem in Burgundy. Its history began in 1826 with the acquisition of the Beaune Premier Cru "Clos des Ursules." Owner of prestigious parcels, Louis Jadot perpetuates a know-how passed down from generation to generation, offering enthusiasts the excellence of Burgundy wines.
At the helm of the house since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey handed over the presidency to Thomas Seiter (formerly of Bouchard Père et Fils) in September 2022, entrusting the general management to his son Thibault Gagey.
The vineyard
This Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Maison Louis Jadot comes from an iconic terroir of the Côte de Nuits, extending over 50 hectares. The second largest owner of the Clos (which has 88 holders), Louis Jadot cultivates nearly 0.5 hectares facing east, on clay-limestone soils renowned for their quality.
Vinification and aging
The harvest is done by hand, followed by meticulous sorting before destemming. Maceration takes place in open vats (wood and stainless steel) for 3 to 4 weeks, with two punch-downs per day. Aging lasts 18 months in oak barrels, one third of which are new barrels from the estate's cooperage.
Grape variety
This Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot 2017 is 100% Pinot Noir.
