A delicate and balanced Echezeaux Grand cru red wine
The Maison Louis Jadot, established in 1859, is a real benchmark in Burgundy. Its adventure began with the acquisition of the Beaune Premier Cru « Clos des Ursules » in 1826. Owning prestigious plots of vines, the House passes on its savoir-faire to generation after generation to offer wine lovers the best of Burgundy.
Head of Maison Louis Jadot since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey entrusted his position to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and the rôle of General Manager to his son Thibault Gagey in September 2022.
This 2021 grand cru is an Echezeaux wine from a vineyard south of Clos de Vougeot, facing east/south-east and resting on a chalky soil.
2021 was a year marked by severe frost in April and unstable weather conditions in Burgundy. Despite a smaller harvest than usual, the quality shone through, with floral and balanced white wines as well as bright, full-bodied and aromatic red wines.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes were carefully sorted by hand then destemmed. Maceration took place in wooden or stainless steel vats over three to four weeks. Punching down took place in the vats twice daily during fermentation. Ageing lasted about 18 months in casks from the estate’s cooperage, of which about third were new.
Pinot noir (100%)
