Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Volnay 1er cru "Chanlin" Famille Gagey 2022
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals an intense ruby-red colour.
Nose
Highly complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with aromas of red fruit such as strawberry, raspberry and cherry. It then develops delicate floral touches reminiscent of peony and violet, beautifully highlighted by subtle oak with hints of vanilla and sweet spices.
Palate
The attack is delicate, giving way to an elegant, refined palate supported by fine, silky tannins. The long finish lingers on savoury spicy notes and candied fruit.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs beautifully with white meats or fine poultry, such as guinea fowl with mushrooms or herb-roasted chicken. It will also elevate small game birds, a wild mushroom risotto or soft cheeses such as a well-aged Brie.
Serving and ageing
This Volnay 1er cru "Chanlin" Famille Gagey 2022 can be enjoyed now to appreciate its vibrant fruit, or cellared for around a decade.
The refined expression of a great Volnay terroir by Louis Jadot
The estate
Founded in Beaune in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. At the helm of a vast vineyard holding, the house stands out for its ability to combine international scale with a deeply respectful approach to terroir. Now led by Thomas Seiter, who succeeded the Gagey family in operational management, the house continues to uphold a classic, authentic style. Committed to sustainable viticulture, it strives to reveal the uniqueness of each Burgundy climat through consistently reliable cuvées.
The vineyard
The "Chanlin" climat is a prestigious premier cru located at the southern tip of the Volnay appellation, on the border with Meursault. The vines thrive on slopes with a fine east- to south-east-facing exposure. The terroir consists of clay-limestone soils rich in small stones, providing excellent natural drainage. This subtle geological balance allows the grape variety to express its full complexity, giving rise to wines of great elegance.
The vintage
In Burgundy, 2022 stands out as a particularly high-quality vintage. The growing season benefited from very favourable weather, marked by intense summer heat. These ideal conditions enabled the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, resulting in a generous, high-quality harvest.
Winemaking and ageing
Carefully crafted, this Volnay 1er cru "Chanlin" Famille Gagey 2022 comes from hand-harvested grapes, allowing for rigorous sorting of the berries. In the vat room, maceration and fermentation are carried out in the traditional manner to preserve the delicacy of the fruit. The wine is then meticulously aged in oak barrels from the Cadus cooperage for 12 to 18 months. The use of new oak remains moderate so as not to mask the identity of the terroir.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
