The Elegance of a White Burgundy Wine by Olivier Leflaive

The Estate

Founded in 1984, the independent house Olivier Leflaive is based in Puligny-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy. The estate vinifies the equivalent of 120 hectares of vines, including 26 hectares under direct ownership, spread across prestigious terroirs. Since 2020, Julie Leflaive has led the family estate, upholding a philosophy that combines tradition and modernity, while winemaking is overseen by Solène Panigai. The estate stands out for its environmentally friendly approach and its commitment to faithfully expressing the identity of each Burgundian climat.

The Vineyard

The Pernand-Vergelesses appellation is located to the north of the Côte de Beaune, at the crossroads of two combes and at the foot of the Corton hill. Forming a natural amphitheatre, this terroir rises to between 250 and 300 metres in altitude. The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils mixed with stony scree and rocky outcrops. The grapes for this cuvée come mainly from the Les Pins lieu-dit.

The Vintage

2024 was marked by particularly complex weather conditions, with constant humidity and record rainfall. This significant disease pressure, notably due to mildew, heavily impacted harvest volumes. Terroirs with good drainage came out on top during this demanding growing cycle, which concluded with a very swift harvest.

Winemaking and Aging

For this Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2024, the berries are partially crushed before a static settling period of twenty-four hours. Both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in oak barrels. Aging lasts twelve months, entirely in barrels of which 20% are new oak, including a four-month period of bulk blending.

Grape Variety

Chardonnay (100%).
