Description

The elegance and depth of a Tuscan wine by Orma

The estate

The Orma estate, whose name means "imprint" in Italian, was created by Antonio Moretti, also owner of the Sicilian estate Tenuta Sette Ponti. After extensive research to identify the best terroir, Antonio Moretti founded this estate in the province of Livorno, near Bolgheri, with the objective of producing exceptional Tuscan wines that authentically and excellently express the potential of these great Italian vineyards.

The vineyard

Orma is a Tuscan wine from a 7.5-hectare vineyard, 5.5 hectares of which are planted with vines. Facing southwest, the vines, averaging 20 years of age, grow on deep soils composed mainly of pebbles, clay and a little sand, ideal conditions in a warm climate.

The wine

Orma is the first wine produced by the estate. Since its first vintage in 2005, Orma has been recognized beyond borders for its quality, power and balance. This 2023 vintage is made from vines averaging 24 years old.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by a mild winter with little precipitation, followed by a rainy spring requiring special attention to preserve the health of the vines. High temperatures in July and August were balanced by timely rains at the end of August and in September, allowing for well-balanced grape ripening. The harvest, carried out between late August and early September, took place under favorable conditions.

Vinification and aging

The berries are sorted and destemmed before a light pressing. The must is filled by gravity. Fermentation and maceration last more than 20 days, with 2 to 3 pump-overs per day for a delicate extraction. After racking, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, followed by aging in French oak barrels for about 18 months (20% new barrels, 80% second-fill barrels).

Blend

Orma 2023 is a blend of Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
