A Great White Burgundy Wine by Patrick Javillier
The Estate
The history of the family name began in 1945, but the true creation of the estate dates back to 1974, when Patrick Javillier settled in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy. Today, the estate spans around ten hectares and is run by the third generation: Marion Javillier and Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy. Renowned for its rigorous plot-by-plot approach and environmentally conscious viticulture, this estate stands as an essential reference for lovers of great white wines from the Côte de Beaune, combining classicism with an authentic expression of terroir.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from a one-hectare plot located in the renowned Clos du Cromin lieu-dit, within the Meursault appellation. The vines flourish on the slopes of the Volnay hillside, benefiting from an excellent south and southeast exposure. The terroir is characterised by deep, rich soils, predominantly composed of clay with few stones, except in the lower part of the plot. The estate practises environmentally friendly viticulture here, mindful of preserving the natural balance of this exceptional environment.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by climatic conditions that favoured excellent ripeness in the berries. The end of the season saw significant evaporation, resulting in a beautiful concentration in the grapes while preserving the acidity needed for balance. This growing cycle thus yielded generous and perfectly healthy fruit.
Winemaking and Ageing
After a hand-picked harvest, the grapes undergo a highly precise plot-by-plot vinification. The Meursault Village "Clos du Cromin" 2023 then benefits from meticulous ageing, designed to respect the identity of the terroir and enhance the fruit without masking it, thereby fostering the complexity and ageing potential of this great white wine.
