Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault Village "Les Grands Charrons" 2022 by Pierre Girardin
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a golden hue, ranging from pale to medium.
Nose
The nose opens with pronounced chalky minerality, accompanied by aromas of white fruits such as white peach and Anjou pear, as well as citrus notes. Floral touches of acacia and subtle hints of toasted almonds round out this bouquet.
Palate
The attack is broad and generous. The mid-palate reveals layers of ripe white fruit, perfectly balanced by lively acidity. The texture is silky, enhanced by a delicate unctuousness. The long, complex finish gives way to a persistent minerality, subtle spicy notes, and gentle touches of vanilla.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish prepared in butter, such as halibut or turbot, as well as with pan-seared scallops or poultry in a cream sauce. It also enhances truffle-based dishes and aged cheeses such as Comté, Beaufort, or Époisses.
Service and Storage
Approachable in its youth, this Meursault Village "Les Grands Charrons" 2022 has a fine structure that will allow it to evolve favourably in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2042.
The Pure Expression of a Great Meursault Terroir by Pierre Girardin
The Estate
Founded in 2016 in Meursault, the Pierre Girardin estate is one of Burgundy's rising stars. Representing the thirteenth generation of his family, Pierre-Vincent Girardin, the current owner and winemaker, established his own venture at just eighteen years old. The vineyard now spans approximately 6.5 hectares in Burgundy, complemented by plots in the Jura. Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and biodynamic principles, Pierre Girardin focuses on producing single-parcel cuvées of great precision, purely expressing the uniqueness of each terroir.
The Vineyard
This Meursault comes from a plot of approximately 0.85 hectares located in the heart of the village, adjoining the "Les Gouttes d'Or" climat. Facing east/southeast, the vines, around fifty-five years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxide in the lower section, becoming chalkier and stonier towards the top of the slope. The vineyard is managed using respectful methods, with trellising raised to two metres to optimise sun exposure and vine health.
The Vintage
2022 stood out for its warm growing season, balanced by welcome rainfall at the end of June. Following ideal spring flowering, the dry month of July allowed for excellent berry concentration. Mid-August rains refreshed the vines, followed by two dry and windy weeks before harvest, ensuring grapes of optimal ripeness and excellent health.
Winemaking and Aging
After hand-harvesting and double sorting, the grapes for this Meursault Village "Les Grands Charrons" 2022 undergo slow pressing. Alcoholic fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged on the lees, without stirring, for approximately nine months in custom-made 456-litre barrels, comprising 30 to 50% new oak. It then rests for five months in stainless steel tanks before bottling, timed according to the lunar calendar.
Grape Variety
Chardonnay (100%).
