Description
A Tuscan wine infused with freshness and balance
The estate
Located in the heart of Sangiovese in the Chianti region, Tenuta Sette Ponti captivates with its timeless Tuscan landscapes and exceptional terroir, which produces remarkable wines. The estate's name evokes the seven bridges that connect the banks of the Arno River between Florence and Arezzo. In the 1950s, the Moretti Cuseri family acquired 50 hectares, marking a new chapter in the estate's history.
Tenuta Sette Ponti is renowned for its refined and elegant wines, which rank among Italy's great wines.
The vineyard
The estate covers more than 300 hectares, of which 54 are dedicated to vines. This unique vineyard sits on a mosaic of varied soils, whose topographical and altitudinal diversity contributes to the singularity of this Tuscan estate.
The wine
Tenuta Sette Ponti's Oreno is an IGT Toscana wine, originating from vines located in the heart of Tuscany. The merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot vines are on average between 20 and 30 years old, while the cabernet franc—used for the first time in this vintage—is 7 years old.
The vintage
In 2023, a mild winter followed by a rainy spring increased soil moisture, promoting fungal diseases and reducing yields by 15 to 20%. The hot, dry summer was well managed thanks to artificial lakes, allowing for efficient irrigation. Despite these challenges, the grapes achieved excellent quality, with a good balance between acidity and phenolic ripeness, promising refined wines.
Winemaking and aging
The berries are sorted and destemmed before a light pressing, then gravity-fed into tanks. Fermentation and maceration last over 20 days, with 2 to 3 pump-overs per day for delicate extraction. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels, followed by aging in French oak barrels for about 18 months (20% new barrels, 80% second-use barrels).
Blend
The Oreno 2023 from Tenuta Sette Ponti is the result of a blend of merlot (45%), cabernet sauvignon (40%), cabernet franc (10%), and petit verdot (5%).
