Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" 2022 by Thibault Liger-Belair
Tasting
Color
This red wine from France reveals a deep, intense purple hue with mauve reflections.
Nose
Remarkably pure, the bouquet reveals aromas of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant. It is enriched with delicate floral touches reminiscent of peony and violet, underpinned by spicy notes of white pepper and a pronounced mineral thread.
Palate
The palate offers a well-structured frame with silky, remarkably fine tannins. The balance is perfect between the richness of the fruit and a refreshing acidity. The remarkably long finish lingers on an elegant mineral salinity.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with veal chops with morels, grilled red meats, roast lamb, or full-flavored cheeses such as Comté.
Service and Storage
To fully enjoy the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" 2022, it is recommended to serve it between 15 and 16°C in a generous glass. Built for long-term aging, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2050.
The Purity and Elegance of a Great Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine
The Estate
Heir to a long family tradition dating back to the eighteenth century, the estate took its current name upon its creation in 2001 by Thibault Liger-Belair. Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, France, this essential Burgundy estate spans approximately eight hectares. Deeply committed to the authentic expression of his terroirs, the winemaker cultivates his vines according to the principles of organic farming and biodynamics. Renowned for his humility and rigor, Thibault Liger-Belair crafts wines of great precision, reflecting the full complexity of Burgundian climats.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the renowned climat Les Saint-Georges, located in the southern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. The estate owns just over two hectares there, making it the largest landholder of this historic terroir. The vines, planted in 1944, thrive on a slope facing east-southeast. The soil, notably deep and stony, is composed of marls and limestone, giving the grapes exceptional concentration and minerality.
The Vintage
The year 2022 began with a mild, dry winter, encouraging an early growing cycle. Despite a few frost scares in April, the vineyard benefited from a hot, sunny summer, ensuring perfect vine health. Timely rains in mid-August allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness before the harvest, which took place from late August to the third week of September.
Winemaking and Aging
In the cellar, the philosophy favors gentle extraction through infusion to preserve the purity of the fruit. The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" 2022 undergoes aging of twelve to eighteen months in oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood never exceeding 50%. The wood is rigorously selected and seasoned for three years. The wine is finally bottled without any clarification or filtration.
