The story of the beautiful Vincent Girardin house began in 1980. Vincent Girardin was born into a family that have been winemakers since the 17th century. At the age of 19, he began producing wine with the two hectares of vines that he had inherited from his parents. A winemaker at heart and a passionate one at that, Vincent Girardin quickly made a name for himself among the great names of the Côte de Beaune. Founded in 1992, the Vincent Girardin house has since become one of the finest references among great Burgundy wine. Since 2000, the talented Eric Germain has been following in Vincent Girardin's footsteps, passionately revealing the exceptional Premiers Crus and Grands Crus terroirs that surround Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.
Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières 2016 stems from Vincent Girardin plot. Located in the lower part of Les Perrières, a historic part of the Meursault appellation. The vines are 50 years old on average and are planted on a gentle slope with poor, stony clay-limestone soil.
This Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières is the finest wine in the Meursault area, and is therefore considered the Grand Cru of Meursault.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and then sorted. They are gently pressed in order to favour the extraction of the juice. The musts are lightly settled before being placed in oak barrels (25% of which are new). Fermentation is carried out in barrels with natural yeasts.
The wine is aged for 16 months on its fine lees and in oak barrels. The wines are blended in tanks one month before bottling, then fined and lightly filtered in line with the lunar calendar.
Through his wines, Vincent Girardin seeks to express the pertinence of perfectly ripe grapes. During the ageing period, these white wines do not undergo stirring of the lees.
This Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières 2016 by Vincent Girardin is a 100% Chardonnay.
This Meursault Premier Cru Les Perrières 2016 by Vincent Girardin will seduce fine white Burgundy wine lovers due to its power and minerality. This gourmet wine offers a great ageing potential and will surprise you with its precision and crystalline finesse, which contrast with the richness and fullness of their wines from 30 years ago.
