A Rosso di Montalcino true to the Tuscan elegance of the Pian Delle Vigne estate
The estate
Owned by the historic Antinori family since 1995, Pian Delle Vigne is located 6 km south of Montalcino, above the Orcia River, 40 km from Siena, in the Tuscany region of Italy. The estate takes its name from the old, 19th-century-style railway station located on the property and still in use today. The wines of the Antinori - Pian Delle Vigne estate are renowned for their aromatic intensity, the pronounced minerality typical of their terroir of origin, and the elegance of their tannins, whose quality only grows more refined over time.
The vineyard
This Rosso di Montalcino comes from the Pian delle Vigne estate situated to the southwest of Montalcino. The pure Sangiovese vines thrive on clay-limestone soils at 130 meters above sea level, benefiting from an ideal southwest exposure. The vineyard spans 65 hectares dedicated to viticulture.
The vintage
Winter 2022 in Tuscany was marked by very low rainfall. Spring brought mild conditions, with budbreak delayed by around ten days compared to recent years. The month of May, particularly warm, encouraged vigorous vine growth. The dry summer enabled the development of healthy berries, though smaller than average. Light August rains accelerated physiological stages, allowing the harvest to take place several days earlier than seasonal averages.
Winemaking and aging
Vinification of the Rosso di Montalcino 2022 is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 25°C. Maceration lasts approximately 8 to 10 days. After complete malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for around 10 months.
Grape variety
This Italian wine is 100% Sangiovese.
