A red wine from Bourgogne imbued with suppleness and elegance
The estate
Daughter of one of Bourgogne’s greatest winegrowing families, Francine Picard took over in the late 1990s the estate historically run by her father. The Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve spans the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of some of the finest climats and terroirs of winegrowing Bourgogne.
With a desire for synergy between the land and the wines, Francine Picard farms her parcels in accordance with biodynamic principles and applies, with passion and great attention to detail, herself to producing wines that reflect the identity of their terroir. From a vineyard covering 110 hectares worked in “agroecology,” the chardonnay and pinot noir of Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve are recognized for their quality, precision and elegance. Since May 2019, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, a specialist in biodynamic viticulture, has joined the Domaine team as Technical Director.
The vineyard
This Bourgogne wine comes from old pinot noir vines planted mainly in the 1970s, located in Côte Chalonnaise and farmed organically.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage is characterized by late budbreak, which protected the vines from April frost. Despite extreme weather conditions marked by heatwaves and drought, the vines held up well. This high-quality, generous vintage made it possible to produce deeply colored red wines, combining concentration and balance, with silky tannins and fresh-fruit aromas.
Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvesting into small crates followed by sorting on a table. The grapes are fully destemmed and the whole berries are transferred to tanks via stainless-steel carts to preserve their integrity. A cold pre-fermentation maceration for 3 to 4 days at 10-13°C precedes traditional Burgundian vinification in temperature-controlled tanks with a floating cap. The Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2022 is then aged for 15 months, split evenly between stainless-steel tanks and 2013 Rousseau foudres.
Grape variety
Pinot noir (100%).
