The estate
Daughter of one of the greatest winemaking families in Burgundy, Francine Picard took over in the late 1990s the estate historically run by her father. The Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve extends across the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of the most beautiful climats and terroirs of winegrowing Burgundy.
With a desire for synergy between the land and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her plots in accordance with the principles of biodynamics and applies herself with passion and extreme attention to producing wines that reflect the identity of their terroir.
Coming from a vineyard covering 110 hectares worked in "agro-ecology", the chardonnay and pinot noir from Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve are recognised for their quality, precision and elegance.
Since May 2019, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, a specialist in biodynamic viticulture, has joined the team of this illustrious Burgundy estate as Technical Director.
The vineyard
"Le Charmois" red by Au Pied du Mont Chauve is a Saint-Aubin wine 1er Cru made from a 2.30-hectare plot located on the hillside overlooking the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Planted at 250 metres of altitude, the vines, over 50 years old, grow on lean, limestone soils with an east-facing exposure.
Vinification and ageing
Hand-harvested, the grapes are rigorously sorted on a table before complete destemming. Traditional vinification in open, temperature-controlled vats. Ageing for 15 months: 5% in new barrels, 25% in foudres, 25% in one-wine barrels and 35% in barrels of two wines and more (Burgundian pièces).
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
