The brilliance and freshness of a Barbera d'Alba by Ceretto

The estate
Founded in the 1930s by Riccardo Ceretto in Alba, the Ceretto house is an emblematic figure of Piedmont in Italy. Initially focused on purchasing grapes, the estate took a decisive turn in the 1960s under the impetus of Bruno and Marcello, who invested in acquiring vineyards to showcase the unique expression of each terroir. Today, the third generation, represented by Alessandro, Lisa, Federico and Roberta Ceretto, runs this 160-hectare estate. A fervent advocate of organic farming, the estate stands out for its philosophy of working by subtraction, limiting human intervention.

The vineyard
This wine from the Barbera d'Alba appellation comes from a 2.75-hectare plot located on the historic Monsordo Bernardina estate, near Alba. The vineyard is managed according to strict principles of environmental sustainability. Farming practices completely exclude the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers, favouring natural methods such as green manure to preserve biodiversity and ecosystem balance.

The vintage
2022 stands out for its great quality and balance. It reflects the consistency of the estate's production methods and its commitment to sustainable practices, offering a faithful and harmonious expression.

Winemaking and aging
The "Piana" 2022 cuvée is crafted using a minimalist approach. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about twenty days, initiated by indigenous yeasts using the pied de cuve technique. The wine is then aged for six to twelve months in a combination of steel containers and neutral or large-format oak barrels. This method, which limits the use of new wood, helps preserve aromatic freshness and terroir identity.
