Robert Parker

Yohan Castaing

A blend of 70% Petit Courbu and 30% Petit Manseng, crafted from direct pressing for three to four hours with whole bunches, the 2019 Les Jardins Philosophiques reveals a fresh, lively bouquet of lemon, spices, orchard fruit and lime mingled with an exotic touch. Medium-bodied, supple and enrobing, it’s layered with bright acids, a juicy core of fruit and a long, elegantly bitter finish. It was matured for 12 months in stainless tanks.

Yves Beck

This wine comes from Petit Courbu and Petit Manseng vines grown on clay and limestone soils. The vines are on average 45 years old. Fermentation and ageing take place in stainless-steel tanks. The bouquet reveals pleasant, subtle fruity nuances (mirabelle plums, vineyard peaches), complemented by a touch of white flowers. On the palate, the wine has richness, giving it a certain breadth. Linear in style, it unfolds smoothly and seamlessly. It is perfectly supported by its structure, which provides freshness and persistence, along with fine bitters.

The property

Emblematic property of the Brumont family, the Château Bouscassé has established itself over the years as a reference of the Madiran appellation, driven by Alain Brumont's passion for the great terroirs of the South-West. The estate extends over 50 hectares of vineyards, spread over a mosaic of micro-terroirs that give the wines great precision and remarkable aromatic richness.

The vineyard

The Jardins Philosophiques comes from a selection of plots from the Bouscassé vineyard, covering 9 hectares out of the 85 total hectares of the estate. The 45-year-old vines are planted on fine yellow and white clay soils resting on fractured limestone. Facing south/south-west at an altitude of 150 meters, they benefit from a high planting density (8,000 feet/ha), favoring the concentration of aromas and the complexity of the wine. The harvest is carried out manually to preserve the integrity of the grapes of this great Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh wine.

Vinification and aging

For the 2019 Jardins Philosophiques, vinification begins with a rigorous selection of different plots from the Bouscassé vineyard. The whole grapes undergo a long pressing of 3 to 5 hours, allowing the aromas to be delicately extracted. Only the best juices, selected after tasting, are kept for fermentation which takes place in stainless steel tanks. Aging continues for 12 months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, bringing complexity and freshness to the wine.
